Dear Branden,
We heard about your death on the 11 o'clock newscast and immediately called each other to break the bad news, to grieve, and to reminisce.  Branden, you were always the funniest guy in the neighborhood growing up, with a big smile and a big heart.  We all have such great memories of you being a total goofball and doing anything to make us laugh.  Even after you joined the military, you surprised us by visiting just to say hi and see how we were doing, despite your extremely busy schedule.  I don't think the reality of your passing has sunk in completely yet.  It's heartbreaking to know that your life was cut so short...pal, you will be deeply missed.

Rest in peace, Branden.

Love,
Alex, Andrew, Mark, and Sara (Your Childhood Buddies) Titusville, FL

PFC Cummings, thank you for serving to keep my family free.  Know that you will always be in our hearts as an American Hero.  Rest easy, your work is done.  To your family and friends, may God hold each one close and give them the comfort only he can give.  They do not grieve alone, there are many who grieve with them.

Pfc Branden C Cummings,

Thank you for your willingness to defend the United States of America and all that we hold sacred. Though tears can never bring you back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that you made and our sorrow at your passing. You are truly a hero and your sacrifice will never be forgotten. Your mission on earth is complete. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the heroes who have passed before.

To the family and friends of Pfc Cummings, we offer our deepest sympathy and condolences. May God smile down upon you in this time of deep sorrow and grant you the strength and conviction to carry on. May you find joy in fond memories and peace in knowing that your loss was not in vain. A grateful nation stands with you.

When I was a little boy,

I had lots of fun at play.

I had tanks and jeeps and Army men,

To keep me busy throughout the day.

When I got a little older,

I met the neighbor boys.

I put away the little plastic soldiers

I traded for even bigger Army toys.

We had pistols, rifles, and machine guns

That made real combat sounds.

Cardboard boxes were our fortresses

The neighborhood was our battle ground.

The forts are all torn down now,

The toy guns have gone their way.

I still love to play Army,

Play Station now fills my day.

High school days are over.

Football games and Prom are through.

I now have my diploma,

And that leaves just one thing left to do.

I’ve been to Korea, Afghanistan and Iraq,

I don’t get home much any more.

I am an American Soldier

And I am still at war.

Just returned from visiting our USMC daughter-PFC Glory Smith at Meridain Misissippi. She will be stationed at Camp Pendleton, Cal. in March. She stated that her unit may be deployed to Iraq in the near future. We, of course, hope that this will not happen, but if it does I know she will go and do her duty and serve proud-as all Marines!

No words can express the loss of your son. But know that thousands upon thousands hold you in their prayers and have the highest respect for the honour, service and highest sacrifice that your son gave. We will hold you and your family in our prayers and hope that you find some small comfort in knowing that your son died not in vain but a proud and honored soldier in service for, yes, our freedom. To the family and many friends of Pfc. Cummings. My family and I offer our condolences. Branden’s ultimate sacrifice hits very close to home. My son, Capt. Scott Glidden, will be deploying to Ba Qubah in late April to serve with the 1st Cav. We lived in Cocoa for 23 years and return to the area once or twice a year to visit our friends. Cocoa is our home. I will do all that is possible to be there to stand and honor this patriot.

To Branden, thank you for having the courage and strength to stand for us. You will never, ever be forgotten.
